PASSMAN & KAPLAN, PC WELCOMES ERIK SNYDER AS NEW ASSOCIATE

Passman & Kaplan, PC is pleased to announce that Erik Snyder has become an associate of the firm. Mr. Snyder received his law degree from the American University College of Law in 2008, and is admitted in Maryland and the District of Columbia. Prior to joining Passman & Kaplan, Mr. Snyder had been in private practice representing employees and whistleblowers. 

Mixing politics and social media can mean trouble for federal employees

With election season in full swing, political opinions are not hard to come by. If you are a federal employee, you may already know that there are limits on things you can say or do regarding your political opinions. Since 1939, the Hatch Act has set limits on non-elected government employees in this regard. Up until recently, the enforcement of the act was pretty straightforward, as digital online communication did not exist. However, with the advent of social media, it is possible for people to make their opinions known to a worldwide audience instantly with a few clicks of a mouse.

Passman & Kaplan Senior Associate Andrew J. Perlmutter will be moderating a panel discussion with staff from the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission on December 16, 2015, concerning the recent amendments to the EEOC's Management Directive 110 (MD-110). The discussion, " The New MD-110: A Discussion With EEOC Staff", is sponsored by the American Bar Association, Section on Administrative Law and Regulatory Practice, Government Personnel Committee. 

News from the Whitehouse: New Law Lowers DoD Employee Protections

News from the Whitehouse:  On November 25, 2015, President Obama signed Pub.L. 114-92, the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2016.  This Department of Defense (DoD) appropriation statute contained two provisions which negatively impact the civil service rights of affected DoD employees. 

WASHINGTONIAN MAGAZINE NAMES FOUNDING PRINCIPAL JOSEPH KAPLAN ONE OF WASHINGTON DC'S BEST LAWYERS

Washingtonian Magazine has named Passman & Kaplan founding principal, Joseph V. Kaplan, one of Washington DC's "Best Lawyers" for 2015. The magazine's December 2015 edition identifies top lawyers by areas of practice. Joe Kaplan is listed in the "Employment Plaintiffs" category. This is not the first time that Washingtonian has recognized Mr. Kaplan as one of Washington DC's Best Lawyers. Mr. Kaplan was named as a top DC lawyer by Washingtonian Magazine in 2013 and 2011, the last two times that Washingtonian ran its biennial "top lawyer" edition."
