Developments at the EEOC: FY 2013 Performance & Accountability Report

Developments at the EEOC: On December 16, 2013, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) issued its Performance and Accountability Report for FY 2013. The report is available online here.

For its federal sector hearing process, the EEOC reported that it had resolved a total of 6,789 complaints in FY 2013, down just under 10% from FY 2012.  The EEOC reported a decrease in new hearing requests of 8.4% from FY 2012.  Appeals activity at the Office of Federal Operations was also down, with at 2.4% decrease in new appeals filed.  While total OFO appeal decisions increased 2%, the percentage of appeals decided within OFO's 180 calendar day deadine fell to 47.9%, down from 52.9% in the prior fiscal year.  Federal sector complainants recovered $56.3 million in FY 2013, down 9% from FY 2012.  The EEOC's overall expenditures for the federal sector hearings process dropped over 10% from FY 2012 to FY 2013. 

The EEOC reported that it is in the process of contracting with the Administrative Conference of the United States (an independent federal agency which conducts managerial reviews of other agencies)  to conduct a review of the EEOC's organizational structure for the federal sector hearings program.  The EEOC reported that electronic case management programs will be tested at four EEOC offices as part of a six-month pilot program in FY 2014.
